One thing I’ve been learning lately is how easy it is to look sideways.

Not because I’m unhappy with my life.

But because comparison is so subtle.

Sometimes it’s scrolling through social media.

Sometimes it’s watching someone else’s doors open while you’re still waiting for yours.

Sometimes it’s wondering why life seems easier for everyone else.

Rachel’s story reminded me that comparison isn’t anything new.

Rachel had Jacob’s love.

Leah had children.

Each woman wanted what the other had.

As I sat with that, I realized how often we do the same thing.

We can be surrounded by blessings and still become fixated on the one thing we don’t have.

I’ve done that.

I’ve found myself so focused on what I’m still praying for that I forget to thank God for everything He’s already done.

Rachel eventually cried out,

“Give me children, or I’ll die!”

You can almost feel the weight of her heartbreak.

She wasn’t just asking for a child.

She was carrying years of disappointment, unanswered prayers, and comparison.

Eventually, God blessed Rachel with Joseph.

But one verse stood out to me.

The Bible says,

“Then God remembered Rachel.”

I don’t believe God had forgotten her.

I think He was reminding us that His timing isn’t the same as ours.

Reading Rachel’s story challenged me to stop looking sideways so much.

Because comparison has a way of convincing us that God is doing more in someone else’s life than He is in our own.

The truth is…

God is writing a different story for each of us.

And just because someone else’s chapter looks beautiful doesn’t mean God has stopped writing yours.

Maybe today the invitation isn’t to compare.

Maybe it’s simply to trust that God hasn’t forgotten your story either.
