Women of the Bible – Day 20: Mary, Mother of Jesus

Mary’s story makes me think about how much I’ve had to learn about letting go of the way I thought my life was supposed to look.

Mary had plans. She was engaged to Joseph and probably imagined a pretty normal life ahead of her.

Then God interrupted everything.

And somehow, Mary said yes.

That stands out to me because I like knowing what comes next. I like having a plan. But some of the biggest changes in my life have happened when God allowed my plans to completely fall apart.

There have been doors I thought I would walk through for much longer that suddenly closed. Seasons ended that I wasn’t prepared to leave. And there have been new doors God opened that I never would have planned for myself.

Looking back, I can see that some of those interruptions were actually redirections.

Mary reminds me that God’s favor doesn’t always feel like favor while you’re living through it.

Her yes came with uncertainty, people potentially misunderstanding her, plans changing and eventually incredible heartbreak.

But she kept trusting God.

And I think that’s the part I connect with most.

I’ve learned that I don’t need God to show me the entire plan anymore.

Sometimes I just need enough faith for the next yes.

Even starting She’s Wild & Worthy felt like that for me. I didn’t know exactly what it would become. I didn’t know who would read it or whether anyone would connect with what I shared.

I just knew I felt God telling me to share.

So I said yes.

And I’m still figuring out what that yes means.

Maybe that’s what obedience looks like sometimes.

Not having everything figured out.

Not knowing where it’s going.

Just trusting that if God is leading, I don’t need to see the entire road before taking the next step.

Mary’s story reminds me that a changed plan doesn’t mean a ruined plan.

Sometimes the life we never expected becomes the very place God reveals His purpose.

So if God interrupts my plans again, I pray I have enough faith to say:

I don’t know what comes next.

But if You’re leading me there, my answer is yes.
