There’s something about Elizabeth’s story that I think is easy to overlook.
She waited years for something she desperately wanted.
Then Mary showed up.
Young. Pregnant. Carrying a miracle she hadn’t spent years praying for.
And Elizabeth celebrated her.
That part challenges me.
Because if I’m being truthful, it’s not always easy watching someone else receive something I’ve been praying for.
You can genuinely be happy for someone and still have that little thought creep in:
God, what about me?
Why is it happening for them?
When will it be my turn?
Comparison can sneak into places where we really do love people. It doesn’t necessarily mean we’re jealous or want what they have taken away. Sometimes their blessing simply reminds us of what we’re still waiting for.
But Elizabeth didn’t make Mary’s moment about her own wait.
She spoke life over her.
She celebrated what God was doing in Mary’s life.
And I want a heart like that.
I don’t want someone else’s blessing to make me question God’s goodness toward me.
I don’t want another woman’s answered prayer to make me doubt mine.
I want to be able to say, “God, I see what You’re doing for her, and it’s beautiful,” without adding, “but what about me?”
Because her blessing isn’t my rejection.
Her timing isn’t my timeline.
And God doesn’t have to take something away from someone else in order to have something for me.
Maybe part of trusting God in the waiting is learning how to clap for someone else while I’m still waiting for my own answer.
Elizabeth reminds me that I can celebrate her miracle and still trust God with mine.
